Sadly Patricia,I think that had there been more compassion in dealingwith issue the outcome would have turned out differently. There might be laws but just her husbands statement that she requested not to be kept alive was heresay.I thought in a court of law you needed written proof. There was none,They took his word for it.

Sadly, Terri Schaivo is gone. As a nurse, I believe terminating her feeding tube was not discontinuing an extraordinary measure of life support. I only hope that the decision of a few, will not be a reflection of how all Americans will be viewed in caring for the sick and compromised! Many, many Americans value life, and are saddened by the way this young woman\'s life was allowed to be brought to an end! Keep her family in your thoughts and prayers!

Terri Schiavo\'s husband did not begin to demand that the feeding tubes be taken out until 3 or 4 years after the time she was hospitalized, after he had received many millions of dollars from a malpractice suit. Of course, the millions of dollars were meant to help with her cost of care, as she was still alive, I am sure. He\'s been trying to kill her since, looks to me, and today he succeeded. God rest her soul!

It is true that many Americans feel she should die...but not all. Sally, I would like to see that question analysed and divided up into male and female yesses and nos, wouldn\'t you?

I think most women would say feed her, women are more nurturing about helpless things, and maybe most men would say to let her die, I think they are more pragmatic about quality of life, etc. Maybe I\'m wrong.

Sad Day, at any rate.

My dog died easier than this women had to.

That being said....my husband and I had many conversations that dealt with many subjects that I\'ve never spoken to my parents about. Our death is one of those things. My husband knows that I do not want to be kept alive by any means. He already has a living will stating the same.

I\'m getting mine done shortly, also. I\'ll be the one making the decision on how I want to die if I\'m in that condition.

It\'s just sad all the way around.

Pat,

I agree. It is such a tradegy that we had to use someone who is a living human being and murder her without her committing any crimes. Why do we do this? Why? There is no justice when innocence pays for the crimes. I pray that this never happens again to any soul.

Yes, poor Terry Schiavo died this morning. Horrible thing to be in that situation, people couldn\'t be more sad about it. The Governor and Legislature couldn\'t save her, the law gave all authority to her husband. I don\'t know exactly why her husband didn\'t divorce her years ago, and let her parents have custody. There may have been something financial going there, but you always hear all kinds of things, and maybe we\'ll learn more. I don\'t hear anyone saying he was on a quest for 15 years to do it, he\'s been living with another woman for 10 years and has children with her.

I don\'t necessarily think really extroardinary measures should be undertaken, except as an emergency, and then discontinued if it is determined there is no hope, but air and food and water are not extraordinary measures, every living thing has a right to those, I could not starve anyone to death. Pray for her poor parents, who tried so hard, and may she rest in peace.
