Happy Birthday Franka

Mick-Sorry to hear about the girl. I\'d love an antique tractor show. At the Whitman County fair they always do an old fashioned harvest, with horses, old tractors & machinery. They even plant a field of wheat, every year, next to the fairgrounds just to be used for it. I googled Puffin Cottage, looks like a good place to spend your holidays.

This weekend is Memorial Day here, Micilin. It is a day to remember our war dead, in particular, a pretty big national holiday. It\'s kind of like the first big picnic and barbeque day of the summer, always celebrated with parades, etc. on the last Monday of May, which is early this year and the holiday kind of crept up on me. Always a big traveling day, and I notice the gas companies put their prices up just in time to take advantage of it, thugh they all swear the cost of gas is tied to production costs. Sure it is.

I\'m glad your computer is working better, Liz. what did you do?

I\'m off to do something useful. Y\'all have a nice weekend.

Just for you, Franka...

Sad about the little girl dying in the fire, Micilin. The Lord has another angel in Heaven today.

Steph, it is OK to kill a spider or other insects if we have to. I never heard Micilin\'s story that it\'s bad luck, so maybe that doesn\'t apply in America. On general principle, I don\'t like killing any of God\'s creatures, and I always express my sorrow when I have to kill Georgia Thumpers or even ants, I step on them to dispatch them painlessly, so when I chase Georgia Thumpers around in the yard, it\'s stomp, \"Sorry\", stomp, \"Sorry\", gets to be a regular song and dance. Have to do it though, they will eat every leaf off a bush in a single day. I don\'t like to spray indiscriminately with insecticides, because then you kill good bugs, like ladybugs.

Hello everyone, we are out in an hour to pick up Franka at the train station. It\'s her 20th birthday today and she wished to go to her favourite restaurant this evening. Cakes are ready all and who wants to come for coffee should be here tomorrow at about three in the afternoon.

Mick, terrible story abput the fire. Poor girl and parents. I\'ll google your cottage later. Didn\'t have time so far.

Pat, I didn\'t forget you and the photos but I\'m afraid it has to wait until tomorrow. And when you can\'t come for coffee I will also send you some cake.

Have a nice weekend all.

Me again

Well, it\'s another Bank Holiday weekend and another short deadline, but it\'s been a busy week and the paper\'s full so I can take a little breather. Might even sneak off early to make up for all those missed lunch breaks.

It\'s my 39th wedding anniversary tomorrow and I\'m taking \'er indoors out for a cow pie and a couple of beers.

Going to the Herts County Show on Sunday, loadsa tractors and all things rural - sort of thing the Mieses would enjoy.

The shock of the little girl\'s death is starting to be felt around the town and we\'re getting calls from people wanting to raise money for the family.

Hello chaps

Fatal fire in the town overnight - four-year-old girl died at the scene.

Always difficult stories to cover.

On a lighter note - congratulations to Ranulph Fiennes on finally conquering Everest aged 65.

Gotta go

Morning everyone,

Looks like we are settling into the same rainy pattern as last year. Been raining all week now, and fields and meadows are swamped..... Patricia, I am counting on the predictions you heard about our summer.... Long and hot.... I pray!!!

Been so busy with renovations, but now things are getting back in place. All kitchen and utility room appliances have been re-connected, and hopefully, over the weekend the sanitary ware will go back in the bathroom. Then, more cleaning, but everything will be nice and shiney new.

I see lots of talk of Dresden here and holidays in Scotland, and computers on the blink and children climbing invisible walls and ceilings........

I love this site.

Stay safe everyone, catch you all later.

Treasa.

Hello All! Well summer is here for now, and it is warm. I don\'t have my mobile airconditioners up yet, because I think it is too early for them. Well all is well here, just had a day with the kids, they were irony and I was too! They were climbing invisible walls and ceilings.

Mick, I felt really bad after I did that to that spider, but it came in the window, and jumping around like he owned it, and it threatened me with it\'s butt in the air. I can\'t have that, and it was right by my computer station. Well I\'m off to bed for now. So good morning Ireland, and Liz have a great Friday.

Love and Hugs,

Googled your Puffin Cottage, Micilin. Looks wonderful. I\'m sure you will have a lovely time.

Liz, I really don\'t know that much about computers, but I find that if I clean up all the junk and cookies left by bopping around on the Internet, mine runs noticeably better and faster. I have a free program that does it, but you can also do it by hand. Get your son to talk you through it on the phone.

Beautiful floral pics on CAM 5 in the last few days, Ms. Kjaer and Mr. Lester. And Mr. Westlake continues to promote Kerry with his enticing pics. Who wouldn\'t want to see those scenes first-hand?

All picures of Dresden are very welcome here, Annette, and I would like to see more pics of the Mourning Dove chicks, Mr. Mies.

The BFC is calling me, I got a new floor lamp to stand by it which gives a better reading light. I\'m settling in there for the rest of the evening. See ya.

Ayup blokes

Great pic on 5.

I\'m torn between leaning on the gate watching the world go by or climbing the hill to that airy ridge.

Mr Mies - Bucking bales - cor blimey that brings back some memories of long days in the fields as a lad earning pocket money stacking bales in eights for the men to pitch on the trailers and later being one of the pitchers. Wonder what happened to all those pitchforks.

Annette - I\'m staying in a village on the East coast of Scotland called Johnshaven.

Puffin Cottage is a stone\'s throw from the sea and a short walk to the pub. Google and have a look round.

Liz you\'re more than welcome, we\'ll sit on the quay with a nice plate of cockles and a pint of McEwans.

Liz, all birthday left overs are gone. But don\'t worry. Next Friday will be Franka\'s birthday and that\'s the next possibility for you to come here. I will tell you tomorrow what cake I make and what other things we have.

Pat, I\'m glad you liked the articles. Dresden is really a beautiful town and full of history. I took some photos when I visited Franka in January. I\'ll send you some... and to the others too if you want.

Webbie, thanks for the cleeks. Funny to read about the \'Trabant\' in English. Mark Westlake\'s video was great, too.

Hello Mick, it\'s nice to have the holidays ahead, isn\'t it? That keeps us going day by day. I hope your hols will be good and the weather brightens up. Perhaps, you can change some hot weather with Stephanie.

Mieses, thank for the greetings to Robert. He is busy with watching the videos on the proangler site. Good exercise for him to practise in translating as there are many things there that are interesting for him. The dove photos are great but I wondered what a messy nest it has with all the twigs scattered round. Mr Mies, be careful with the Burgers. You know, when someone is on diet he has to send the yummy meals to friends around.

Hello chaps

Stephanie - Tsk tsk, killing spiders is very BAD luck.

Looks like a damp day in Dublin.

Dry here at the moment, but we\'ve had a cold wind for about 10 days and although the summer birds are back from Africa it feels like November at times.

Things are a bit hectic at work with the new double deadline, but I expect it settle down when we find a routine.

Looking forward to my hols in Scotland in a few weeks time.

Little fishing village on the east coast with nothing to do but play with the dogs on the beach and have the craic in the pub.

It\'s been very windy here the last two days with scattered showers. This after mid 80s Sunday, but it\'s OK sunburns heal.

Work seems to have picked up a little. Lots of road construction projects starting to go now. Maybe we can make it through the summer. They are sending me to work in our Lewiston, ID store next week for 3 days. It will be a nice break & the store is right on the Clearwater River, which Lewis & Clark used on their way to the Pacific. It is a very pretty part of Idaho, in a deep river canyon, Hells Canyon is the deepest in the USA & home of the Effy Burger a 1# cullinary masterpiece I may have to have for dinner at least once.

Annette, I am so amazed, I read the article about the Trabant auto, that was nice, but I completely missed Webbie\'s cleek about the restored church in Dresden until just now.

It is absolutely fabulous that they have rebuilt it after all these years. It is quite wonderful, of course, and worth it. The story of the rebuilding and the gathering of the old materials and re-use of them, and computer technology used in their placement...fascinating. An absolutely incredible project. I noticed the dark and light stones in the picture we had on the CAM, and wondered about that.

So nice that Franka is at school in such a wonderful place.

I haven\'t checked out the CAMs on the site yet, it will be dark now, maybe I\'ll get time to do that tomorrow. Thank you, Annette, for telling us about it, and thank you, Webbie, for putting up the cleek. I am absolutely knocked out by the original architecture, and by the restoration.
