Ayup me ol\' muckers.

Webbie - I was number two on our gun, as a fellow former gunner you will know it was my job to ram home the shell and close the breech after the charge had been inserted.

It was a challenge to open the breech as quick as possible after firing so the gases would eject the cartridge over the trail and hit the sarge\'s boots. Got so excited one day I opened it before firing. As the charge slid out onto the ground the term bowel control took on a whole new meaning

Webmaster-Comment: Shell-shock was what was on my mind. You wanted to be brave and not make a fool of yourself like many other youngsters. I was 14 . The only verification of qualification to join up was a crude height measurement....the light switch. I think 18 was the required age. It might have been the case that the driver was part of the gun crew. I remember kneeling on one knee to the left of the gun. No earplugs then.
"Number One Gun - Fire"

Entertainment for the younger crowd was to be able to listen to Radio Luxemburgh on a radio used for communications. I think it was a 47.

Mr Mies, That is wonderful news. I am so glad you are doing so well.

I haven\'t heard even one whining or complaining word out of you, though it has to have been really hard. You\'re a class act, Mr. Mies.

And so is Mies.

Keep on getting better. You\'ll be back fishing in no time. Hang in there.

Mike CA

See Glen of Imaal

Firing into the Hills.

After I completed my naval service on the Royal Canal having spent 18 months in the engine room of the sub, I decided I would benefit from some artillery experience and that is what prompted me to transfer to the 19th Artillery Regiment. So I spent several \"camps\" in the Glen.

Hi Mike CA. Snowdon is definitely worth the visit but you need to book the train up ( and down) in advance. It can get very busy. Other really interesting places include Portmeirion where they filmed the tv series The Prisoner. Hope you make it up to this part of the world. Let us know when you get here.

Hi Mike CA. If you can get up to North Wales on your trip you have the whole of the Snowdonia National Park with the railway to take you up and down Snowdonia, the slate works at Bleanau Ffestiniog, the castles in Conway, Caenarfon, Harlech, Denbigh, there is the island of Angelsey and Llandudno and lots more. Mid Wales has Brecon Beacons and lots of beautiful spa towns and reservoirs. Pembrokeshire on the coast is beautiful. Cardiff has been transformed recently. Wales has lots to offer. Enjoy.

Mar, sorry for all your troubles! I know it is frustrating for you. I hope you feel much better soon. Hello to your mom!

Three days stranded in the wilderness? I don\'t think I would have survived. Don\'t like the cold AT ALL!

Mick, those twisters really are scary. We\'ll be in \"tornado season\" until the end of November, probably. Not a fun time. I have only been in a small one. The hubby has been in at least one F-5 and another bad one. In 1979 there was a huge one in Wichita Falls, TX. He tells very scary stories about that one.

Survived the inspection at work with \"Zero Deficiencies\"!!! Our whole department thinks we should celebrate with a paid day off...funny management doesn\'t see it that way. Oh well. Have a good evening/morning.
